Introduction
Polar Expeditions
|
| 'People perhaps, still exist who believe that it is of no importance to explore the unknown Polar Regions. This, of course, shows ignorance. It is hardly necessary to mention here of what scientific importance it is that these regions should be thoroughly explored. The history of the human race is a continual struggle from darkness towards light. It is therefore, to no purpose to discuss the use of knowledge: man wants to know, and when he ceases to do so, he is no longer man.'
Fridtjof Nansen (1893)
Waterproof Expeditions takes you to remote Polar regions, the most beautifull and fascinating places on Earth. Despite many visits to the regions, they continue to surprise and amaze us.

| The Polar Region – the Arctic to the north and the Antarctic to the south – are the two points on earth farthest from the sun and thus also most alien to life.
The Arctic, an adventure in contrasts. A vast ice-encrusted ocean with a multitude of islands ringing it. The sparkling ice shelves under the midnight sun, of Norway’s Svalbard archipelago, the far reaches of the Russian Arctic. Trace the fjords of Greenland, navigate the Northwest Passage or reach the North Pole on board an Ice breaker.
Watch for polar bears and whales, explore by Zodiac and kayak, and visit little-known towns and hamlets where hardy communities maintain their traditional way of life amid the harsh conditions.
Antarctica, a continent encircled by pack ice, ranked by huge tabular icebergs and covered with an ice sheet miles deep. It is a place of beauty and mystery, enticing explorers, adventurers and dreamers over the years. |

| Antarctica is as far away from anything familiar as you can get. It invites your imagination, and then, in a dazzling sleight of hand—with its light, air, ice, weather and wildlife—humbles you as no other place on earth can. An Antarctica expedition might be the single greatest adventure travel experience of your life. The opportunity to be in the company of thousands of penguins, watching whales and seals, and cruise around in our zodiacs between brilliant white icebergs and ice floes will amaze you with awe.
In addition to their geophysical features, the North and South Pole also exert a strong fascination and stimulate the imagination. |

| Expedition style travelling - we don't take a trip, a trip takes us - |
|
| Trip Itineraries are pretty much a guideline. Of course we always try to hold to the Itinerary as much as possible, but SAFETY is number one. Since this is an expedition to a remote part of the world, unpredictable weather conditions, availability of anchorages, wind conditions, and other factors beyond Waterproof's control will always dictate when its safe to make a dive or a landing.
Embracing the unexpected is part of expedition-style travel, and a measure of flexibility is something all of us must bring along on the voyage. |
